HIGHLIGHTS OF FISHING REGULATIONS

SIZE AND CATCH LIMITS FOR LAHONTAN CUTTHROAT TROUT:

 

Size limits are based on total length of the fish (the distance between the tip of the nose and the fork of the tail, not the extreme tip of the tail).

"Legal Keeper" size for trout is 17 to 20 inches, and/or 24 inches & longer. Only one trout over 24 inches allowed in possession.

Catch limit is two trout per day, but not more than one of them may be 24 inches or longer. For example, you may keep two trout between 17 and 20 inches; OR, you may keep one between 17 and 20 inches, and one over 24 inches.

Amendments to the

Fishing, Boating and Camping Regulations

 

"1.19 GUIDE: Any person(s) engaged in the business to manage, supervise, conduct, direct, lead, steer, escort, pilot, show, control, affect, influence, or regulate, another person(s) in sport fishing for monetary gain."

"7.2.3 Cui-ui fishing is closed (Endangered Species)."

"FISHING BOND SCHEDULE.

9.6 Operating Fishing Guide Services without Tribal approval - $2,000.00"

"SECTION 9 - LICENSE REQUIREMENTS.

9.1 Non-Tribal Members. All non-Tribal members, except as set forth at Section 9.3 below, twelve (12) years and older must have in their possession a valid Tribal Fishing Permit to fish in the open waters within the exterior boundaries of the Reservation. Non-Tribal members under twelve (12) years can fish at no charge with an adult who possesses a current valid Tribal fishing permit."

"CAMPING REGULATIONS. 11.5.1 PERMITS REQUIRED (Applies to Non-Tribal members)

The beaches on the East side of the Lake (Pyramid/Stone Mother) are designated for day use only. Long Beach (North Nets) and the Sutcliffe Marina Beach are designated for family use beach only (No Alcohol). Illegal Drug use is prohibited on the Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation."

"SECTION 13. FISHING DERBIES.

1.1 PERMITS, RULES AND FEES:

1.1.1 All Fishing Derby's and Special Events must submit a letter of request and application form to the Pyramid Lake Tribal Council for approval prior to holding the event.

1.1.2 Upon approval an event fee will be assessed by the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe based upon information provided to Tribal Finance office.

1.1.3 A $10.00 Special Fishing Permit Fee per person per event to be paid by the host, promoter, organization (person in charge, organizer) and is due before the event starts. Valid Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribal fishing and boating permits are still required.

1.1.4 Organizer of derby/event is responsible for re-imbursement to Tribe for Search and Rescue if negligence on part of the participant is determined.

1.1.5 All Creel Census data is to be strictly adhered to.

1.1.6 Failure to comply with rules and regulations shall result in civil fines set forth in the Fishing Bond Schedule, Section 12.1 Enforcement.

1.1.7 Maximum length of Derby/Event is two (2) days.

1.1.9 Derby/Event Organizer must be bondable and insured. Certifications of coverage shall be submitted to the Tribe with the derby/event application."

"SECTION 3. ILLEGAL TACKLE.

3.1.2 Only one combination of rod, line and not more than two hooks (as defined in section 1.6 above) which hooks shall be barb less, shall be used by one person at a time and equipment shall be closely attended by such person while fishing."

"SECTION 4. FISHING SEASON.

4.1 FISHING SEASON. Due to spawning season the open waters of Pyramid Lake shall be open to fishing year round, with the exception of Trout Season, which shall be open from October 1 to June 30 of each year. From March 15 to May 16, closed areas are from the Sutcliffe Marina up to and including the South Nets Beach area. Fishing within 500 feet of all boat docks is prohibited."

All amendments take effect October 1, 2007.

 
  • NO BAIT FISHING. Only artificial lures and flies are allowed.
  • Only one combination rod, line and not more than two hooks (which may be single, double or treble), shall be used by one person at any time and such equipment shall be closely attended by such person while fishing,
  • Hours for fishing and boating are restricted to one hour before sunrise through one hour after sunset. Official sunrise and sunset times can be found in most daily newspapers.
  • Any person who has attempted any fishing effort (even if the didn't catch anything) is required to stop and report all information at the Creel Census Station, When it is open. Normal hours of operation are Saturday and Sunday, 10:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. (some exceptions may apply). The Creel Census Station is located on Pyramid Highway, near the Pyramid Lake Store.
  • ATV's and Two Wheeled off road vehicles are banned from the Reservation Boundaries.
